Keeping a Positive Focus!
COVID-19 has changed our lives and no doubt this will be a time none of us ever forget. Entrepreneurship and international business is always intertwined with politics, personal motivation and government regulation but this is historic. Not to use a trite expression, but we will get through this and come out the other end. Nevertheless, on top of health challenges, economic strains, separation from loved ones, and the drone of negative news, it is a difficult time to remain focused on anything positive. We now live in a time when we don’t say “goodbye”, we now say”stay safe.” Therefore, we thought it a good time to review some all-time good reads for your consideration.
“The Power of Focus” by Jack Canfield, Mark Hansen and Les Hewitt. Authors Canfield, Hansen and Hewitt offer a step-by-step approach to success by concentrating on our strengths while organizing and intensifying personal vision. The authors of “Chicken Soup for the Soul” provide a systematic approached to success while relating numerous heart warming stories. If you have not read this work, we highly recommend it to be worth your time.

“Red Gold – Peak Performance Techniques of the Russian and East German Olympic Victors”
By Girgori Raiport M.D., PH.D.
The Eastern bloc countries were using sports/performance psychology way before the rest of the world. We read this work back in the 1980s and is very much still relevant. Finding a copy is sometimes difficult but we suggest giving Amazon.com a try. It’s worth the effort to review this iconic work.

Healthy Ways to Handle Stress!
Stress affects people of all ages. The symptoms of stress can be extremely unpleasant, as participants in a study released earlier this year by the Statistic Brain Research Institute and the American Institute of Stress who reported experiencing physical symptoms of stress admitted to feeling fatigue, headache, upset stomach, and muscle tension, among other things.
Among those who reported feeling physical symptoms of stress, 77 percent admitted to feeling those symptoms regularly, citing job pressure and money as the primary causes of their stress. How men and women handle stress can impact both their immediate and long-term health, as stress has been linked to a host of problems and ailments, including sleep dysfunction and heart disease. Many people cope with stress in unhealthy ways, which may only exacerbate the effects of stress on the body. Certain methods of handling stress may work for some people but not others, but the following are a few healthy ways to combat stress.
· Limit alcohol and caffeine consumption. Many adults turn to alcohol at the end of a stressful day, but the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention note that relying on alcohol to cope with stress may only create more problems down the road, and those problems will only increase your stress levels. In addition, the Anxiety and Depression Association of America notes that alcohol and caffeine can aggravate anxiety and trigger panic attacks.
· Rely on a support network. Coworkers, family and friends have stressful days, too, and such confidantes can help you handle stress in healthy ways. The ADAA recommends men and women dealing with stress let their support circle know how they can help relieve stress. Many people simply need to talk to someone after a stressful day, which can feel like a weight has been lifted off their shoulders. Let your support network know you’re there for them when they experience stress as well.
· Get daily exercise. Exercise pays a host of dividends, not the least of which is relieving stress. At the end of a stressful day, get some exercise instead of pouring yourself a drink or indulging in an unhealthy meal. When the body is physically active, the brain secretes endorphins, which are neurotransmitters that make you feel good. Regular exercise also helps you get a fuller, deeper sleep, which can be disrupted by stress.
· Eat a healthy diet. Diet also can affect how your body handles stress. Certain foods can tame stress. For example, oatmeal can boost levels of a calming chemical known as serotonin in your brain. That calming effect can make it easier to cope with stress. Other foods may help strengthen the immune system. Vitamin C, for instance, may help curb levels of stress hormones such as cortisol while simultaneously strengthening the immune system. Omega-3 fatty acids, which are found in fish such as salmon and tuna, may help prevent surges in stress hormones while also protecting against heart disease and depression, two serious conditions that studies have linked to elevated stress levels.
Healthy ways to handle stress can help men and women who are stressed out ensure that stress is not compromising both their immediate and long-term health.

3 Benefits of Core Strength Training
In the last decade, chances are strong competitive athletes, weekend warriors and men and women who routinely exercise have heard of workouts touting the benefits of core-strengthening exercises. Those unfamiliar with core training might think it’s just another exercise fad, unaware of the many practical benefits of a strong core.
To understand the benefits of core strength training exercise, it first helps to understand what such exercises are and dispel a common misconception about core training. People unfamiliar with core strength training may mistakenly believe it’s merely a way to sculpt toned abdominal muscles. While core training focuses on muscles in the abdomen, it does not do so exclusively. Proper core strength training focuses on the body’s entire core, including the hips, back and chest as well as the abdomen.
The following are three significant ways that athletes and non athletes alike can benefit from core strength training.
1. Improved balance
While working muscles in the hips, abdomen and back, core strength training is training these muscles to function as a more cohesive unit. This can improve balance, which can prove especially beneficial to aging men and women who may feel like they are losing some of their coordination.
2. Uniformity of muscles
Men and women who adhere to more traditional strength training workouts may notice certain muscle groups develop more than others, perhaps naturally or because they are willingly or subconsciously focusing on certain areas more than others. For example, a person who enjoys doing bicep curls might develop especially large biceps but may not focus as much on the muscles in his or her back. That can lead to muscular imbalances. Proper core strength training reduces the likelihood of such imbalances because the exercises focus collectively on a group of muscles, training these muscles to work together and developing them at the same pace.
3. Better posture
According to the online medical resource WebMD, core-strengthening exercises are the best way for men and women to improve their posture. That’s because some of the muscles worked during core training move the torso by flexing, extending or rotating the spine, while other muscles worked stabilize the pelvis and spine in a natural, neutral position. The Premier Sports and Spine Center notes that some of the benefits of good posture include lower injury risk, better alignment that can lower risk for arthritis and improved muscle health.
Core strength training exercises can pay various dividends that greatly improve adults’ overall health and perhaps best of all it can be effectively accomplished at home.

Kansas City Steak Company
Family owned since 1932, the Kansas City Steak Company prides itself on providing value and the highest quality meats. We wholeheartedly feel that they have achieved their mission statement. While many of us just think of Kansas City for its famous barbecue, we love it for their top-of-the-line steaks as well. This company founded by Giovanni Scavuzzo during the Great Depression has history and a quality line of products. Our favorite is the Kansas City Strip Steaks. If you follow our suggestion, be sure to closely adhere to the directions. Sear the steaks first – one or two minutes a side should do it – and then finish via indirect heat. Don’t forget to try their seasoned rub too.

Ideas for Family Game Night
Family game nights can be a great way for families to disconnect from their devices and spend quality time together. Much in the way that family dinners can facilitate conversation and closeness, game nights can spark companionship and hours of fun.
Game nights are easy to organize and are particularly handy on those nights when there’s not much to do or when the weather makes outside activities implausible.
To get started, use these game ideas as a catalyst for fun.
1. Stick to the classics. Certain games remain tried and true family favorites. These include Monopoly, Trouble, Risk, Clue, and Scrabble. Adults who had a favorite game growing can play it with their own children and see who outsmarts who.
2. Learn card games. From “War” to “Spades” to “Gin” to “Uno,” many card games have withstood the test of time. This is a great way to bridge gaps between grandparents and grandchildren. The older generation can teach these familiar games to children, and everyone can join in the fun.
3. Strengthen drama skills. Charades is a game in which teams must act out a word or phrase based on certain categories and have others on their side guess what is being mimed. Charades often leads to lots of laughs and stumped participants.
4. Shop for new fun. Take a virtual family trip to a toy store or another online retailer and browse the games. Let each family member pick out a game that appeals to them and then include them in your family game night rotation.
Families can engage and converse over entertaining games that bridge generations and perhaps make quarantine more bearable.
