Tiger Woods & Self-Discipline
Will you be watching?
------
This week Tiger Woods is scheduled to compete in the Masters Golf Tournament and will tee off at 7:18 am on Thursday. Love him or hate him, all eyes are always on him and his miraculous recovery after a horrific car accident.
As you may recall, on February 23,2021, he was speeding down a steep hill on the Palos Verdes Peninsula in Southern California when he lost control of his car, and it flipped over several times. He was lucky. We know the area very well having literally driven down that very hill countless times. The speed which he was reported to be traveling at shocked us. Basically, we had never seen anyone go that fast down that slope.
His comeback and determination, nevertheless, is the real story and why we will be watching. He almost had his leg amputated from the accident and yet here he is at one of the most prestigious golf tournaments in the world. Yes. Mr. Woods might make questionable personal decisions, but the pure beauty of his athletic self-discipline and ongoing comeback is too hard to pass up.

Benefits of Weekend Getaways
There is plenty to be said for weekend getaways.
-------
Working oneself ragged is no way to enjoy life. In fact, a person could be doing harm to his or her health by working too much, which may lead to lost productivity and burnout in the long run.
Experts agree that getting away could be good for mental health. According to psychotherapist Jonathan Alpert, who is the author of "Be Fearless: Change Your Life in 28 Days," a weekend trip can boost mental and emotional health. Alpert says smaller vacations even "pack a bigger punch" than longer ones. Neuroscientists have found that getaways can evoke feelings of calm, banish stress and enable the mind to heal. Furthermore, according to a Gallup study, those who make time for regular trips score higher on the Gallup-Well-Being Index. Weekend getaways simply may be easier to schedule than longer vacations.
The following are some ways to make the most of weekend getaways and why these getaways are so beneficial.
· Plan ahead. Weekend getaways generally do not need extensive planning. The logistics are much easier when there are only one or two nights involved in an overnight stay. Sometimes weekend getaways are only day trips, which makes them even easier to set up.
· Bring pets along. Short stays may mean it is easier to bring pets. Quite often hotel chains and even homestay accommodations allow pets with the inclusion of a pet cleaning fee. This saves on having to find a pet sitter or a boarder to watch pets while you are away.
· Book a different locale a few times a month. Weekend getaways are more affordable than lengthier trips, which means you can see various sights without a big investment. Unlike longer vacations that tie travelers to a specific destination for the duration of the trip, weekend jaunts are short stops at different spots. Try various cities and towns on for size.
· Avoid boredom. Anyone who has booked an extended trip away has at times had some boredom set in when the initial wow factor of the resort or trip wears off. In some instances, it may seem as if you've exhausted the list of things to do. Weekend getaways are anything but boring because you're packing so many things to do into a short amount of time.
· Keep a to-go bag packed. When the mood hits you, you can dart off to a weekend escape. Keep a packed bag with some essentials at the ready so there's no overthinking the vacation process.
· Become a loyalty member. Investigate the loyalty programs of various hotel chains. This way if you find a chain you like and book stays regularly you can earn rewards points. These points may be redeemed for upgrades or even free rooms over time.
Weekend getaways are great ways to rest and recharge without the commitment of time and planning required of longer excursions

Update on the Swiss Light Banking License
Switzerland.-------
To boost innovative financial companies, the Swiss parliament has simplified the regulatory requirements for Fintech companies which accepts public deposits. This regulatory simplification, which was implemented on January 1, 2019, allows for a “Swiss Light Banking License”. The regulatory change will greatly reduce the financial requirements for FinTech companies that accept public deposits.
Under previous regulation, the operations of many FinTech companies often fell within the scope of the Swiss Banking Act and therefore required a full Swiss banking license from the Swiss Financial Market Supervisory Authority (FINMA). This Class One Swiss Banking License carries a substantial financial and organizational obligation, and has an onerous licensing process, which has kept many companies out of the Swiss market. For that specific reason, the Swiss Federal Council and Swiss Parliament created a legal framework for FinTech companies.
The new regulations include a “sandbox exemption”, that allows FinTech companies to engage in certain activities which under the previous rules would have triggered the need for a banking license. In general. these companies may accept deposits up to a maximum of CHF 100 million without a full banking license, so long as such assets are not invested or interest bearing.
Three years after this new legislation was put in place it continues to gain popularity with start-ups.

Tips for Handling Anger at Work
by Candace SmithThe Etiquette Blog
Candace Smith Etiquette
Biography: Candace Smith, wife of Nobel Prize-Winner Professor Dr. Vernon Smith and owner of the extraordinary blog, “Etiquette for the Business of Life” as featured by BBC, Chicago Tribune and USA Today offers her insights.
-------
Handling anger at work isn’t always easily claimed. When an emotion is labeled as someone else’s fault, trouble is bound to follow. But applying etiquette-ful behaviors to a tense situation can bring comfort, a sense of competence, and calm to you and others viewing the situation.
Your Work Environment
Here’s a funny quote I saw recently: “I don’t need anger management – I need people to stop making me mad!” Whether your workplace is relaxed or stressful, unless you work all by yourself, disagreements will arise. The escalation of an angry situation is just around the corner unless one or all people involved immediately jump in and de-escalate.
Ultimately, the responsibility for managing your anger is your own. Even if the words or actions of someone you work with lit the flame of your emotions, how you react is your decision and will determine if the flame is extinguished or set ablaze.
Etiquette-ful Actions for Handling Anger at Work
In angry situations, finding connectedness is vital. Etiquette plays a direct role in determining the outcome of your attempts to connect with someone who is having a hard time handling anger at work.
Five outwardly etiquette-ful actions to help others connect with you:
- Smile when you speak to someone.
- Look directly at others when speaking to them.
- Keep your distance; your body language conveys your being present.
- Arms to your side, palms open when you speak conveys openness. Quick or unnecessary movement, keeping your arms crossed, or appearing distracted, shows the opposite.
- Validating another’s concerns, even if you don’t agree, makes them feel as if they’ve been heard.
- Let yourself feel the desire to make the angry person feel important.
- Choose to pay attention! Keep your phone out of sight, off the table.
- Stay positive; find something uplifting and appreciative to share.
- Make true the philosophy that you are there to help.
- Be firm as you remember to live the values of your business.
If you ever find yourself angry at work, here are a few self-care tips to help in the moment until the feeling subsides.
- Count to 20 while slowly breathing in through your nose and out through your mouth.
- Say a prayer.
- Walk awhile outside of your workspace.
- Find a place to be alone and just breathe.
If you know you are prone to angry moments, think ahead of time of a few strategies for yourself. Write them down on a notecard. It matters only that they are written somewhere you can access them easily.
Self-talk during and after experiencing anger or a tense moment can be helpful. We give ourselves pep talks before important moments, why not do the same for angry moments? Reminders to yourself such as “you are the only one who can make you look bad” can help rein in a particularly negative reaction.
This statement also reminds you of your responsibility for your own self-presentation. If someone else is trying to make you look bad, you can more easily thwart their efforts by keeping a cool head. In fact, the tables might turn.
Handling anger at work, or anywhere else, is best done when you can think clearly to get to the root of what is really happening. Let your curiosity overrule your reactions.

Summer is just around the corner with its promises of sweltering heat and threats of dehydration. Which is why there’s no better time than now to remember that water is your best friend. Not energy drinks, not sugary drinks, not alcohol (although this can be fun in measured doses!), and not iced coffee (although this is fine as long as you don't over do it). Just water...and plenty of it.
The typical recommendation of 6-8 glasses of water a day is always a good one to follow. However, if you're sweating more than usual, or exerting yourself in hotter than normal weather, you'll want to drink more. This is also true if you are drinking dehydrating beverages such as caffeinated drinks or cocktails.
Our bodies dehydrate long before any dehydration symptoms start to become apparent, so staying hydrated from the get-go is essential. Some clues your body will start giving you when you're dehydrated are:
· Increased thirst
· Dry lips
· Dry mouth
· Sluggishness
· Decreased urine output
· Urine is low volume and darker colored.
· Headache
· Dry skin
· Dizziness
While it may seem a given that we all drink more when it's hot out, just exactly what we drink makes a very big difference. We may all drink more naturally as temperatures rise, but if we're drinking liquids that are full of sugar, additives, and caffeine...we're not giving our bodies a fighting chance.
Water is what ourbodies really need in order to replenish what we are sweating out, and if we are continually drinking it, we won't have to worry about dehydration. Prevention being key here, as with anything!
Now the general consensus may be that water is boring and not everyone enjoys drinking it. A lot of us have become accustomed to drinking liquids that are flavored, but there are ways to get creative with all natural ingredients that make drinking optimal amounts of water much more palatable.
Doing something as simple as taking a glass pitcher of water, filling it with your favorite fruit and herbs and letting it steep overnight will deliver a delicious and thirst-quenching infused water beverage that is naturally alkalizing and a treat to drink.
Some great ingredients for making homemade infused waters are: lemon or lime slices, cucumber slices, strawberries, blackberries, blueberries, mint leaves, orange slices, sprigs of thyme, thinly sliced jalapeños, and rosemary.
Experimenting with different combinations of these ingredients is fun and foolproof. You're bound to find a favorite, but all of these blend together really well...so play around and have fun with the process.
Fruit essences and food-grade fruit oils are also an easy and natural way to give your water a little kick which in turn will inspire you to stay hydrated. Just a few drops in a glass or water bottle and you’re set!
Infused water is the perfect way to stay hydrated in the summer as well as year round. It's a pleasure to drink, comes with the added health benefits of being naturally alkalized and cleansing, and even helps keep your skin naturally plumped and less prone to fine lines and wrinkles. So many wonderful reasons to drink your water!

The Masters Golf Tournament
Insights of Rick Smith.-------
The Masters Golf Tournament is this week Obviously, this year has special meaning as the world looks for an escape from the news of the day and all eyes will be on Tiger Woods. As such, I thought it an appropriate time to highlight some of the insights of Augusta National Golf Course from Rick Smith, who is one of golf’s greatest teachers. Rick’s notable clients have included major champions such as Jack Nicklaus, Lee Janzen, Vijay Singh, David Duval, John Daly and Greg Norman. Rick was also Phil Mickelson's personal golf coach when he first won the Masters in 2004 and in addition was the host of "the Big Break" on the Golf Channel. Several years back, I had the pleasure to interview Rick. Below are some of his thoughts expressed during that interview:
We've seen all of it on TV where you have the immaculate fairways, and the color just jumps off the set with sugar white bunkers and of course, the green jackets. Here are a few insights from behind the scenes that you might not know:
RS: I think the tradition of the Masters even makes it more special than the beauty. The tradition of knowing that Gene Sarazen holed out a double eagle on the 15th, Jack Nicklaus charged in '86 to win with a 30 on the back nine at Augusta. You can almost see Bobby Jones standing there with Alister McKinsey on specific holes designing the golf course. All those things are part of what makes Augusta special and makes the Masters special and then when you take the people that have not won the green jack you know from Ernie Els, Norman to Lee Trevino, they obviously have not won here that makes it even more special.
JC: You mentioned the rules, what might a layperson not know about Augusta and its rules?
RS: No autographs on the other side of the clubhouse at the turn. None, and they enforce it. I think that’s good because it’s like saying to Michael Jordon in between the 2nd and 3rd quarter, “I need you to sign an autograph and will you please tell me about your family.” No one is allowed on the practice-tee other than the player and their teacher. At other events there’s vendors and phones going off, it can get pretty crazy. The other area where their rules differ is the clubhouse environment. It is very strict, and you can’t just get in. You can’t just have a ticket, to get into the clubhouse is hardest ticket in any sport. It’s harder that a Super Bowl ticket. Also, the fact is they have green everywhere. From green cups to green wrap around their sandwiches. By the way, the Pimento sandwich is famous at Augusta. They just do things different, it’s unlike any other event that you’ve ever seen. It’s almost like going back in time.
Rick Smith Golf
Here are some interesting facts about the game:
Golf is played all over the globe. Golf is one of the world's oldest sports, boasting a rich history. Golf is a sport of skill, that can involve not only athletic prowess, but also brain power. .
· To this date, golf is only one of two games to be played on the moon. The other is a javelin throw.
· Long before the advent of tees, golfers played off of hand-built sand piles.
· In 1889, Ab Smith inadvertently coined the phrase "birdie," when he hit a shot he defined as a "bird of a shot."
· Making a hole-in-one during a round of golf is quite a challenge. However, the odds of making two are incredibly low, at one in 64 million.
· Only around 20 percent of golfers have a handicap below 18. The United States Golf Teachers Federation defines handicap as "a measure of a player's current ability over an entire round of golf, signified by a number. The lower the number, the better the golfer is."
· The word "caddy" comes from "cadet," the French word for "student."
· A regulation golf ball contains 336 dimples.

Easter Traditions Around the World
Different cultures have different celebrations.-------
Easter is a special day for Christians across the globe. While the highlight of Easter celebrations are the religious events, particularly the vigils and church services, Easter fanfare sometimes stretches beyond church walls.
The following are some Easter traditions across the globe:
Bermuda
Celebrants create and fly homemade kites on Good Friday Kitefest, which features bold, geometric designs. It's also traditional to eat codfish and hot cross buns during Holy Week. On Easter Sunday, the faithful participate in sunrise services on various Bermuda beaches.
Costa Rica
Costa Ricans take Holy Week and Easter quite seriously. Each town hosts parades and processions during Holy Week, providing dramatic re-enactments of Jesus' journey through Jerusalem to his crucifixion and resurrection.
England
Good Friday visitors to Trafalgar Square can see a classic dramatization of Jesus' resurrection. "The Passion of Jesus" is a 90-minute performance that attracts thousands of visitors.
France
Many people visit the famed Notre-Dame Cathedral to hear its bells toll throughout Easter Sunday. A fire destroyed a portion of the cathedral roof in 2019 and repairs are still underway. There also are Paris Easter egg hunts. Parisians and tourists also can visit La Sainte Chapelle, which offers Easter concerts consisting of classical music and choral singers.
Israel
Israel is a melting pot of both Jewish and Christian faithful. Easter is a solemn celebration here. In Old Jerusalem, faithful pilgrims and priests walk the Via Dolorosa, which is the same path that Jesus took on the day he was crucified. The Way of the Cross, which is what the procession is called, is among the most amazing sights in the world.
Italy
Easter is special in Italy and particularly in Vatican City, the home of the Pope. The Pope holds a special mass on Easter in Saint Peter's Square, which traditionally draws huge crowds. Elsewhere in Italy, masses take place at area churches and many towns host parades and other celebrations.
Mexico
Holy Week reenactments take place in devout areas of Mexico. Residents in other areas may take part in silent processions through town, or by visiting 12 churches in 12 days.
Easter Wells
Easter wells are colorful, traditional decorations in Germany and Franconian Switzerland. The custom of Osterbrunnen, which started in the early 20th century, includes decorating public fountains and wells with Easter eggs. The tradition begins on Good Friday and continues until two weeks after Easter. According to the Bavarian tourism site www.bavaria.by, before the wells are decorated, they are first cleaned in a ceremony known as "Brunnen fegen," which loosely translates to "sweeping the well." Once cleansed, the well is dressed and decorated. The practice traces back to the belief in water as a life-giving force. Some infants are even baptized in the well's water, and others drink the Easter water as a protection against illness.
Easter Trees
Even though trees may be more widely associated with Christmas, Easter trees are an increasingly popular and festive tradition that trace their roots to Germany. The Easter tree is known as Ostereierbaum in Germany and is a centuries-old custom. Eggs are hung on outdoor tree branches and bushes or are placed on cut branches displayed inside. While the tradition is traced to Germany, German-influenced locales like Hungary, Poland, the Czech Republic, and the Pennsylvania Dutch region of the United States also are popular places for Easter trees to appear.
When decorating Easter trees, families can use plastic eggs or even real ones. Using a sharp knife or needle, make two small holes in a raw egg. Blow out the inside of the egg until the shell is hollow. Then decorate the egg and thread a ribbon through the holes so it can be hung on the tree. If desired, place sweet Easter treats, such as chocolate eggs or pastel-colored cupcakes, under the Easter tree.
Easter Eggs
Coloring eggs is a beloved Easter tradition. Eggs long have been symbols of fertility and rebirth, making them fitting icons for spring. Dyeing eggs is an entertaining activity, but one that also may have some religious significance.
Easter is a time of celebration and reflection in many parts of the world.
